What ages do you teach?
We have experience teaching to 4 year olds through adults and we make sure to use age appropriate piano methods for each level, matching the interest and goals of each student.
Can the parent be present during the lesson?
Parents or guardians are welcome to assist the students for the first few lessons or when the teacher decides that the parent’s involvement is necessary in the lessons. However, it is best that the student develops independence in the lessons as well as in the practice at home.
What if we have to miss a lesson? Do you offer make-ups?
The tuition reserves a time slot in the teachers’ schedule. In the event that a lesson cannot be attended, 24 hours’ notice is required, otherwise the tuition payment will not be refunded. Last minute cancellations will not be rescheduled or refunded. If possible, any lesson may be held online instead of in person, for example when travelling or sick.
I don’t have any background in music. How can I help my child succeed in his practice at home?
For beginner students, the piano methods are very simple and explanatory and parents who put their children in beginner piano lessons will learn the instrument along with their pupils. Parents are encouraged to read the notebooks and piano methods for the child at home as well as making sure that the student gets to practice consistently.
If your child is at an intermediate level already, you can help him stay committed by:
Providing a well-maintained instrument
Providing a practice area and time that is free from distractions
Helping the child get a practice schedule
Making sure your child arrives at his lesson with his books at the appropriate time.
What kind of piano should I have?
Ideally, everyone should start on an acoustic piano but an inexpensive way of introducing your child to piano lessons is by starting off with a keyboard. Please make sure that the keyboard has 88 weighted keys and at least one pedal. However, this is not a long term instrument and you should think about switching to an acoustic piano after 2-3 years of lessons. This will offer the student a proper musical development and technique.
